This is on both sides of the car at the top/middle of the windows. It is a metal pc that sticks on the outside of the window. When the window is up it is rubbing on the glass which is not good. Should there be a covering on it so it does not scratch up my glass???

 

It's the clip for the guide cable which you also see in the pic. I thought they'd dropped the guide cable after 1971 but if car has been re-topped the shop may have ordered one with cable.

Your top has shrunk enough that you should probably consider replacement. The color code is on the body data plate but white was the default color. White or black seem to hold up better than the colors. My 73 was a triple cranberry car and after two of the maroon tops separated in 7 years I went to black. Those scissor tops were a miserable design... All because GM wanted to be able to use same rear seats in coupes and convertibles.
