1966 Delta88 - dismantling heater core

Hi everybody,

the leaking heater in my 1966 88 needs an exchange.
I have the manual, so I know where is what basically.

But if anyone has done it before on an assembled car, I would
appreciate any good advice, step by step tips and tricks to avoid taking unnecessary things apart.

Thanks in advance and season's greetings,

André

Do you have AC or just standard heat?

If you have AC, remove the duct work on the right side behind the glove box.

Next, I would remove the nuts holding the heater assembly under the hood.

You have will have to alternate between under the hood and in the passenger compartment until all parts are disassembled.

On cars without AC, you will have to get you hands under the right fender to get the last bolt next to the blower fan.

Good luck.

As said remove AC ductwork from under dash. Heater core/box assembly comes out from under the dash. There are cables and vacuum lines. Make sure you dont pinch a vacuum line when re-installing. Hopefully insulation pad will stay intact for a good seal against firewall.

You'll also need to remove the dog.

Thanks for all your answers, and sorry radioburningchrome - yes, with AC.

That means you can reach everything you need without removing the dashboard itself, plus gauges, panels, glovebox etc.?

Everything works from underneath on the passenger side?

...if the dog will be so kind.

One thing I forgot to mention was mark the vacuum lines if so desired. Makes reinstallation a bit less confusing.
