1962 dynamic 88 transmission

My transmission went out in my Dynamic. I been calling around. It's gonna be a lot of money to rebuild. If they can even find the parts. I heard it would be cheaper to get another type and install. What is another alternative? I heard I could get a 200R transmission with overdrive and it would bolt right on. What other beefier transmission setups can I do? And what will I need to make it work?

Whomever told you that a TH 200 4R trans would bolt in was wrong.
However it can be done, and Tony Ross is the one to do it.

It's probably best to call him at 330-544-4466

Probably won't be too much more money than a rebuild of the "slimjim" and a helluva lot better. These "slimjim " trannies are the main reason that 61 to 64 Oldsmobiles are so rare.

Here is a thread on the conversion;

The parts are available, finding someone to do it right is going to be the issue. Most shops don't want to hear "slim jim".

Ross would be my first choice for a modern transmission conversion for these cars but Tanson Enterprises http://www.forwhatyouneed.com/tansonp1.html is in Sacramento and might be easier for you.

If you have a reputable trans rebuilder in mind, you can perhaps save some time, money and trouble by buying the complete rebuild kit yourself. Here are a couple of sources:

Good Luck!
