Are you just installing a posi unit,or are you doing a gear swap as well? Your car has an 8.5" 10-bolt,with 28-spline axles. There are plenty of parts available for that rear.

Axle bearings

you really do not need to buy the axle bearings at this time and most part stores will have them also. If the car is in store just wait till you can get under the car down the road or till it gets back to your possession in the spring. They are light and will not take long to get there. Jim

Same gears I put in my 72! From PL #4, your axles should be bolt in.
Are you doing the install yourself or having a shop do it?

I have a mag base with an interapid indicator so I'm going to give it a shot, My buddy Wayne Robinson owns "Brakes Plus" here in Orangeville. So I have good back up and a hoist.

Just remember to take your time and do not try to get it all done in one day. GET that pattern right and the backlash in the correct zone. Carrier preload and pinion preload. Take your old bearing and hone it out for set up ease of changing the shim try the original shim or a .038 to start.

I have no idea I figure I will just wrap some emery cloth on a shaft and use drill to lap mine out a bit. I'm thinking -.001 or 2 thou just a slide fit. Put the shaft back in with the old bearings and use a feeler gauge to check what thickness of shim will be needed. Depending on how hard the bearing is as to what grit of paper I guess.
