Rear end ID

Found a rear in a junk yard. It's 55" from backing plate to backing plate (no I didn't tell them what I wanted the rear for)

It's supposed to be out of a 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix, with a 2.41 posi and first two letters are "CA"

I've done some research, GM A Body cars did not get a 2.41 in the 70's. it's either a 2.56, 2.73, or a 3.08 and either an open or a posi. The closest I see to CA was AC which is a 1975 2.73 open

Am I missing something? Was there a CA code? 73 had a CB and I found that a firebird in 74 had the CA stamp, but the rear is the correct length so I don't think that's the case

I'm going to look up 72 code, just to be safe

That rear will fit the 73-77 A-body and 78-96 B-body.
Depending on the plant, they might have different codes.
It sounds like it's a 2:56.

Ok, it's just the CA that threw me off

I'm set up to use my cousin's S-10 as well! I'm excited

And the difference between a 2.73 and a 2.56 is more of an inconvenience than a worry

Now what driveshaft do I need?

I know the 8.5's snout is a bit longer than the 7.5. They have 6 driveshafts all for 4 door cars/station wagons. None for the 2 door.

The 2 door A Body has a 112 inch wheel base.
The 4 door A Body has a 116 inch wheel base.
All 80-85 B Bodies have a 116 inch wheel base.

Thinking about it while I post this, all the cars listed in which the drive shafts came from, including the 87 Caprice wagon, 84 Custom Cruiser, and 80 Bonniville had the 8.5 rear as well, and the Custom Cruiser has a wheel base of 115.9 inches.

Should I just pick up that driveshaft as well?
