cast 9792977 rearend
Friend got rearend today. Not expert on numbers. Wants to put it in a 1972 chevelle. Pulled cover and it's a posi/springs. 10 bolt. I asked for cast date and he thinks it's L-19-5. Will it work?
The rear end turned out to be a 1968 Tempest 293 10 bolt posi coded YD.
Hollander book i have showed will work. Just have to use u bolts rather than bolts with caps. Told friend he got a deal. Rear will fit alot of models and flyer posi is good road setup. 400 bucks for complete and can put rite in his car!

That date says that it was cast in late 1965,so it would have come in a 66.
I'm not sure aboiut putting it right in the car.Has it been serviced or rebuilt at all?If not, that thing is over 45yrs old.You start running it again,as-is,and it won't take long before it needs attention.Just don't expect the world out of it.

Brian, I am on your side. Too old a rear to run even in a regular build car. Spend some money and get the rear rebuilt. These cars are now 15K - 20K in good used older restored condition. If you have one you can afford the rebuild. Jim
