Is $500 for a 71 3.08 10 bolt posi a decent deal?

Found this in a dead 71 Cutlass. I am another who wants to convert my stock Open peg leg to a posi. Is that a chev diff? I'd hate to do that but what's your opinions on the best way to go? I'll end up kicking the gears up to at least a 3.42 anyway, so should I just rebuild mine? I also know carriers are hard to come by.....soooo???

If it is recently rebuilt, I would say yes. If it is just used, who knows.
I thought you said you wanted 3.42 minimum?
Don't buy a 3.08 if it is not what you want.

ps. Nice car.

The 71-72 rears were corporate 10 bolts. It's alot easier and cheaper to find the posi carriers for them. Also, they are plenty strong if built properly. Wait for Brian Trick to chime in. He can build one for you if needed.
