315/35/17s with a 68 Buick GS rear housing

Hello, I am trying to fit a 315/35/17 tire on the rear of my 71 cutlass with a 17x11" rim.

Ive got a 68 Buick GS rear axle housing 8.2". I have a wheel simulator and it is putting me in the 5.25" - 5.5" range for backspace with this size tire, anything more and its going to rub seriously on the quarter panel, anything less and I hit frame.

Ive been looking at what other guys are running and noticed stock chevelles and cutlass' all have 6.25" backspaces on their 17x11" rim with this size tire and their stock axle housings.

I assume that since the rear end in my vehicle is 2" shorter in width, it would be safe to say that my measurements make sense???

If anyone could chime in on this it would definitely help me out a bunch, thx guys!

10 bolt rears width

Well 1968-1972 GM A-body rears are ALL the same width 10 bolt 8.2 or 10 bolt 8.5 or 12 bolt chevy or 12 bolt olds. ALL are 55.25 and or 61" OVER ALL DRUM TO DRUM.

So the chevelle will be the same as the buick etc. YOU really need to do you own measurements to make sure that NO ONE out there in internet land if full of it. Jim

NEVER RELY ON OTHERS FOR FITMENT ON YOUR CAR. MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE....
