12 Bolt O Type 28 Spline axles?

I prefer new but I haven't found anything less than $229.95 each + shipping. That is way out of my budget I am just a college kid with an old daily driver.
If my other option is used I would be interested as long as is it in great shape and a decent deal. If you have something shoot me a PM.

If you have a 68,then your axle shafts have the sealed bearing, with the seal pressed into the axle tube. These shafts are notorious for having the bearing spin on the shaft, thus leaving them useless. The best thing to do for the used shafts is to have the bearings removed, and check the surface where the bearing presses onto.If it is undersized, compared to the rest of the section, then it is no good.A good, usable pair of shafts can be had for abouit $100.00/pr or possibly less.A new pair will be about $280.00.
Regardless if you choose new or used, when you have the new bearings pressed-on,apply a small amount of red lock-tite on the surface where the bearing will be pressed onto,to give it a little more insurance of not spinning.

That's good news.
I hope these parts work out well for everyone. I try to save things for people when possible. (If they're not junk that is)
If Peter on here ends up wanting the gearset, I will have effectively saved the entire rearend from the junkyard crusher, and found every piece of it a good home.
Go TEAM!

I need one. I had my rear blasted and hot tanked. I had the flanges cut down a little to mount disc rotors and had new studs pressed. I am having all the bearings and seals replaced and the gears reset. When he was cutting one of the flanges he realized one of the axles has a slight bend. He found one local for $100, anyone in NJ have one for less?
Thank you,

The 70 O-axle shaft is a one-year-only shaft. It looks identical to the 71-72 8.5" 10-bolt shaft, but the pitch of the splines is different, and a 71-72 shaft will not mesh with teh O-axle carrier splines.
I should have a good 70 O-axle shaft. $80.00 shipped to NJ.

Hey Brian,
I will find out on Wednesday from my guy working on the rear. He said he could get one but the guy asked him specific measurements like the distance from the outer face of the flange to the end of the axle which is 29-3/4" and from the outer face to the bearing block I believe which he said was 3.05". He said they made a few different sizes but not sure if my guy realizes it is a 70 rear. I had no idea there was a difference like the angle of the splines and he may not either. Thank you for that information, I will get back to you either way for sure as soon as I talk to my guy.
Thank you,
Bill

Hey Brian,
It turns out he has the correct axle for my rear and will do the same $80. so my builder will pick it up and we will take it from there. Thank you for your help in this matter.
