"O" Axle Shafts?

Hey all,

I have a 3.91 rearend out of my Hurst/Olds. I have been digging around on the internet and have not found any replacement axles for the type "O" rears. Am I not looking in the right places? To answer the question sure to follow, mine are bent. The rearend is getting clunky also, so I'm sure it needs to be gone through anyway. So finding a source for parts will be necessary. I know they're not the best to be looking for parts for, but I'm hopeful.
Thanks.

Are these the larger spline axles, I believe 31 splines? Years ago I bought a used one off ebay, they come up once in a while. But If its not too spendy you might want to have new ones made. I know I've seen references on who makes aftermarket axles but off the top of my head I can't come up with one. monzaz might be able to suggest someone.

I think you are correct John, I think they are the 31 spline axles. I have not tore into it yet. I won't until I know I can get parts. I'm pretty sure the limited slip is going to need a refresh at minimum.
I was hoping monzaz would jump in and tell me it's all available. Fingers crossed.

I’m guessing you have a 68-69 H/O, which would would be 31 spline shafts. I recall Monzaz posting that the major axle shaft manufacturers such as Moser can make them for you.

Yeah, it's out of my '69 H/O that I destroyed many moons ago.
Ouch! I was hoping not to have to go that path. At least Moser, don't know about anyone else, but Moser is mighty proud of all of their stuff. I'm hoping there are other options.

Try Dutchman in Idaho, Strange, etc. They are pretty much comparable in price.

I didn't even think of Dutchman. They're right here in my town about 5 minutes away. Thanks Ralph.

I think the 31 spline units were 67/68. If yours is a 69 with a 28 spline axle the 8.2 66-67 P axle 10 bolt axles are the same and plentiful.

I'm not for certain, I'll have to dig, but I thought the 3.91 and 4.33 rears in '69 were 31 spline.

I'm not positive but have always thought 31 spline were 67 & 68. It could be a 31 spline but if it's a 28 spline you have plenty of options.

Well it looks like Dutchman right here in my home town can do 28 or 31 spline. Not too expensive. So I can at least get those. Now I just need clutches and shims for the limited slip plus the bearings and shims for the carrier and pinion.

Looks like you are correct. The digging I have done seems to indicate what you said. '68 was the end of the 31 spline axles. '69 on were 28 spline. Good to know. I guess I'll know for sure when I pull them out.
