I'm restoring a 1966 Pontiac GTO in which a previous owner installed an Olds "Type O" rear axle with 3.91:1 gears. I am replacing this axle with a custom built Ford 9", so I was curious to know if there are any people in the Olds world who seek the Type O axle for their cars. Basically, I'm just wondering if I should even bother trying to find someone to buy it, or if it's the kind of thing that should just go to the scrap metal pile. I don't have any idea about these things. It needs to be rebuilt, as it wines pretty loudly during deceleration. Thanks in advance for your input.
It definitely should not go to the scrap pile even though it needs rebuilt. There is a market for it and I maybe interested in it. Where are you located? You can PM me
To clarify, I'm curious to know what the value of this is. If it has any value, and it seems that it might, I will offer it for sale rather than tossing it on the scrap metal pile. So... Any ideas on the general market value for something like this?
I am local to you and interested when you figure out what you want for it.
Gordy
Hey Gordy. Just swinging by here on a whim and wondered if you ever got around to rebuilding this rear end and installing it in your beautiful '66(?). If so, I hope you're enjoying those 3.91 gears!
