Differential Oil Capacity
Differential Oil Capacity
I am rebuiling the posi unit out of my 1970 Olds Cutlass. The carrier is a "672" casting but I am unsure if the rest of the differential is the '67-69 or the correct for the car '70. I have a stock type cover and an aftermarket W-27 aluminum cover. How much gear oil will be required for each cover (if different). Will the aluminum help with cooling?
Buy 3 quarts that will be plenty.
Do fill on a flat surface until the oil back washes from the fill plug area.
After driving the car a few days double check and top off as needed as the posi will hold some fluid in the clutches and the axle tubes will also hold some after the first drive run happens after any full clean out rebuild.
