Installing new Axles

Hello All,
This is my first experience installing. Am I supposed to tap this in? The retainer plate is about a 1/4" from the axle plate.
I just want to make sure.
Thanks

I have always tightened the bolts/retaining plate to push the seal into the end of the axle shaft.

spacer plate

You need the spacer plate between the flange and the retain plate ...it acts as the backing plate thickness...They come in most disc brake kit and are for the bolt in axle rears BOP usually.
I have extra plates here if you need as they come in c-clip disc brake kits so I just save them.

YOU MUST have this spacer plate in or you will ruin the seals.
