I just purchased a 12 bolt o axle with 278 gears.Will 3.23 gears work since its a 2 series??

 

No. OEM 3.23 won't go on 2.78 carrier.


2.56 & 2.78 same carrier
3.08 & 3.23 same carrier and aftermarket 3.42-3.90-4.10
3.42-3.91-4.33-4.66-5.00 same carrier

You need a 3 series carrier from another O type or you can buy a new production posi. But not sure how they work with 3.23 gears. They should work fine since the 3.42 and 3.90 richmond gears are made to work on a gm 3.08-3.23 carrier.

 

Yes, you will need a spacer.
