what rear axle on my 56 Super 88?

Codes for 1956 ratios as follows; Code 6 is 3.64:1, code 8 is 3.42:1, code 9 is 3.23:1 and code 0 is 3.08:1.

9.3 Pontiac Olds drop out rear
You have a 9.3 Pontiac / Olds Drop Out third member-
1956 will have the 29 spline axles 1957-1964 will have the larger 31 spline axles.
This rear was AKA ' OLD Gasser rear' VERY BIG, VERY STRONG. They use to use these rears in the Top Fuel cars as it was the strongest rear built in the day. PERIOD.
YES, STRONGER THAN ANY 9" Ford.
Massive 1.875 pinion shaft
12 bolts hold the ring gear in place
Ring gear Diameter 9.3
Rears are expensive to build these days BUT well worth the effort as longevity and strength will prevail.
I sell Posi units for this rear and can get gears. I prefer to sell the hogs heads complete so you know all the parts are installed correctly.
