type O posi

type O posi

any one know if the axles are the same used in a type O posi and a type O open rear end.

That depends on the year and the ratio used. 68-69 axles are different from 70 axles because they changed the bearings in 70. In 68 there were 28 and 30 spline axles used depending on if they were heavy duty or not and the 30 splines were only in the 3.42 and up ratios.

The 67-69 Cutlass/442 O-axles had a sealed bearing,with an seal pressed into the tube.These were 28-spline,with the optional 31-spline offered in late-67/68.The 70 O-axles had a roller bearing with the seal on the outboard side of the bearing.These were all 28-spline.The vistas also had a different bearing design,but were all 28-spline.As long as your donor axle came out of the same style of rear,it will not matter if it was posi or not. What do you have under your car?
