Ring and pinion

Ring and pinion
Does anyone make a 3.23 ring and pinion for a 71 Olds anti-spin? I have a 3.08 now and was thinking if it is possible to make it a 3.23? Do you just change the ring and pinion?
I saw Supercars offers some but no 3.23.

They make a 3:23 for the 8.5" 10-bolt,which is what your 71 should have.10-bolt cover,with 10-bolt ring gear,28-spline axles,30-spline pinion. However,if you already have 3:08's,you will hardly notice a difference with the 3:23,but you would with a 3:42.

I went from 3.42's down to 3.08 and I have a 4 speed wide ratio. I didn't hardly notice a change off the line because of the torque a 455 has. It seems to make a bigger difference on smaller stroked engines, 350 etc. I wouldn't do it unless you plan on racing it.

3.23 gears
I have those gears f you really want them. I understand that was like an original ratio for the 71 72 W cars... maybe? I have seen a few with them.
Remember it is YOUR car and if it makes you feel better and you want it then do it. Your call.
I think 165.00 is the price NEW

I'm hoping... I also changed from open to a series 3 posi that Jim sold me couple years back. Still have to get the fuel tank, fuel lines and hoses installed before it's ready to try out. Kind of excited waiting to see what happens with a 'little pedal effort'.

[QUOTE=Allan R;532777]Sounds like I'll be in for a hell of a change since I went from 2.73 to 3.42's. I was going to use 3.23's but I had the wrong ones and I plan to eventually drop in a 455.
Going from 2.73 - 3.42 here too, also can't wait to "feel" it.....hopefully this summer.

Wish it was all that simple Jim, the dang stuff keeps falling and the weather is not being cooperative. With all the sand/gravel that's been dropped by the plow trucks the main streets are starting to look like gravel roads. Not the stuff I'd want to put my car through. Don't worry though. When I take her out for that first spin I'll be smiling and thinking of you.

Ahead of you now. It's warm enough I'm pulling the car away from the wall today or tomorrow. Should be able to resume work early next week after the insurance appraisal guy gives it the evil eye....

If you go down south in the red soil states the dirt actually preserves the cars...IT is very cool. NO SALT.... Jim
