Rear end cover

I’m changing out the rear gear oil in my 65 442 and I’m going to use silicone in place of a gasket on the cover. I can’t find a torque spec for the cover. Anybody have any idea what it might be? Thanks.

Well, if you use the torque spec for a gasket, it will squeeze out all the silicone. Get a real gasket. The torque spec is in the table on page 10-35 of the 1965 Chassis Service Manual. 25 ft-lbs

I couldn’t find it in the manual. I tightened it by hand, let it set for an hour, torque it to 15’s lbs. Thanks Joe. I hope to stop by and say hello to you at Carlisle.
