Rear axle spins, but not driveshaft

Ok, so in my long, long restoration we’ve encountered a number of issues.

Full disclosure: first ever full frame-off.

Replaced rear brakes and pulled both axle shafts. This is connected to a TH400 with brand new driveshaft and joints. Car is on jack stands and when wheels are turned, driveshaft doesn’t. We may have misadjusted trans linkage, but shouldn’t driveshaft turn with wheels? They spin as they should(current open diff on original 12-bolt rear end).

Any help here is incredibly appreciated. Is diff gear bad? If there’s anytime to replace and go to posi this is it. Thanks again.

With an open rear, turning one wheel causes the other to turn in the opposite direction without the driveshaft moving.

Try putting the transmission in neutral and turn the drive shaft. As said above you have an open rear end.

The way you are rolling the rear tires with the rear off of the ground will cause the tires to rotate opposite of each other. The drive shaft will not rotate because the trans is probably in park. If you take it out of park and rotate the drive shaft the tires may or may not turn in the same direction. If you can hold one tire and the other rotates, it is an open drive line. If you cannot hold one tire from turning while turning the other, it is positrac.
