ughhhhhhhhhhhhh rear end problem possibly

I have been fighting every damn thing on my car. Trans is about to go and while inspecting the drive shaft I felt some play and it's not fro the u joints but from the pinion !!!!!!!! I just dis the rear end in my girlfriends k5 and went over to compare it and it has no slack which it should not since it has a crush sleeve to tension things up. Am I screwed now or am I over reacting. When I get some time I will put my dial indicator on there with the driveshaft off to measure the total slop amount. This will be the third time my rear end went bad. first time axle seal went. Then I bent an axle tube, then we found out the axle was also bent, Then it still leaked and still does. BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH .

Well, bad things seem to go in 3's. So you should be good to go next time.

When you drive a car hard these things happen.

That I understand but something has to start working out lol. I do beat the living snot out of my stuff but I feel it should last a little longer., either that or I do abuse my stuff harder than I think. Either way looks like I have one month to get stuff squared away before the bop race at the local track.

It's not bad luck, it's about doing it right. If your pinion nut came loose, you did something wrong the last time you did it. You should always use a new nut on the pinion, a little Locktite wouldn't hurt and never back it off the slightest amount after it's been tightened.

You don't need a dial gauge at this point. If it moves, it's too much. A new crush sleeve and nut, retighten it and you're good to go.

If I did it I would probably would take this as a learning lesson. I had it done by a reputable source. After doing the rear on the k5 I feel more comfortable venturing off and doing it my self. After it was built I never touched it. I also know better than to back it off. When I did the k5 I did use loctite. I know some people think I may cut corners but in reality I pay close attention to specs and procedures., I just sometimes have less than desireable parts to work with. As far as the rear goes it has been done with good parts and it's been in for quite some time now one thing I did notice is my trans has to be moving some because my driveshaft is hitting the loop bolts and I have almost 2 inches on each side dunno if that plays a role but I noticed that last time when I was tracking down the trans noises.
