Input on gear pattern
I have limited experience with setting up rears so I was hoping to get some feedback from the community on the gear pattern on my car. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

think the coast and drive side are mixed up labeled.
SO the way you have it labeled the drive side looks pretty good BUT the coast side is a bit shallow from the pics. squirt a bit more oil on the coast side and spin it around a bunch more times and see what it looks like... (these are all from the way the pics are labeled)
If your pinion shim is in the .035 - .039 your probably going to be ok.
I would still like to see a little more depth in the (drive side ) you have labeled as coast side. - ok?

Yup I screwd that up!
I will through some oil on it and try it again. Thanks for your quick responses.

SOUNDS CLOSE. mIGHT HAVE TO UP IT TO .038 ISH but LETS SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WITH A LITTLE SPLASH OIL GEAR OIL DO NOT REMOVE THE PATTERN JUST A LITTLE SQUIRT OF THE OIL AND SPIN IT AROUND 2 TO 3 TIMES. jIM

Per your guidance I added some oil and got a much clearer pattern. Based on this pattern and your reccomendation I think I need to increase the size of my pinion shim. This time I labeled the pictures correctly.

I think you are right on. I would run it. Jim
Just be sure the pattern looks the same all the way around the ring gear with out run out...In other words make sure the pattern does not change ... Stays consistent 360 degrees around. With in reason.
Good job.

Thanks for the feedback and additional information Jim. One last question for you. The pinion bearing preload..... Most places I look it says to set it between 24 to 32 inch lbs. for new bearings. However, in the Yukon manual it say 12 to 15 inch lbs. for new bearings. The ring and pinion are Yukon and all my bearings are Timken. Can you advise on the correct preload for the pinion. Thanks again for your help.

You never want to be TOO tight on preloads and backlash that is what creates excessive heat and failure. 20 inch pound is what we go with new bearings. 10 with used stuff.
JUST be sure when you have it all in where you want and run it to stake that nut in place with a steel pointed punch into the sides of the nut body . THAT will keep it from ever backing off from torque. The air gun will never have a problem removing the staked nuts at all.
