Question Driveshaft specifications

Need some guidance. I have searched on WAC and searched on CO and can't find the info I need. I have a '66 442 4speed that I have been restoring. I am looking for specifications for the proper driveshaft. The only spec I know is that the length from centerline to centerline on front/rear U-joints
should be 60". What I would like is the following:

1) Diameter of driveshaft tube
2) Make/model of correct rear U-joint - if multiple org. suppliers please list
3) Make/model of correct front U-joint - if multiple org. suppliers please list
4) Make/model of front yoke - if multiple org. suppliers please list

With this information, I can then determine if I currently have the correct
driveshaft for my car. I suspect that I don't, but I need this info to verify
whether or not my suspicion is correct.

Thank you,
Nufo (Fred)

What makes you think the drive shaft you have will not work? I had one fabricated for my car for about $275. Gave them the measurements and the front yoke, in 2 days I had a driveshaft.

Fred, only thing I can suggest to you is based on my observations tearing down and redoing my drive shaft on my 72.
2,3,4 - if it's OEM will likely all be Saginaw.
Maybe someone with a 66/67 could caliper them for you. Don't know if your driveshaft is like mine but the OD on the spline end is different than the yoke end.

Oldcutlass - The driveshaft I have is not the original to the car. The pinion yoke on my car takes a different diameter cup on the U-Joint then what this driveshaft that I got uses. I'm trying to determine if the driveshaft I have is correct for my car, or if it's out of a Chevy or some other GM product. The only things I know for sure are these:

1) the transmission is original
2) the rear end including pinion yoke is original
3) the correct driveshaft length is 60"

I'm trying to determine if the driveshaft I bought is correct. In order to
make it work, I have to use a rear U-joint that has a longer "Y" axis then
the "X" axis. I don't recall that being the case on my car originally but I'm
not sure. I'm trying to ascertain what U-Joints Olds used with the '66 442
with 4-speed transmission. Yes I can have a driveshaft made to fit my car,
that is not the purpose of my post. The purpose is to get enough info to
know whether or not I have the correct driveshaft.

Allen R - Thank you for your response and like you said I'll give it a little
time and see if a '66-'67 442 guy jumps in here...

Thanks,
Nufo (Fred)

I see, hopefully someone can chime in and help you with that. As you know my application is not stock nor a 4 speed.

I used a conversion u-joint for now but I don't think this driveshaft is correct... will wait until somebody that is familiar with '66 442 4-speed cars finds this thread and has the urge to share....

I can tell you this: If it is two-piece shaft, it is not correct. The auto versions are two-piece, and the manuals are one piece.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, that drive shaft looks to be up to the job. Everything looks to fit well. I'd use it.

Btw, it sure looks purty under there!
