Chevy 12 bolt original to Olds?

I recently picked up a 1967 442 chassis as part of a parts car. But it has a Chevy 12 bolt rear end. I figured it was a transplant but I looked it up on a Chevelle site and it was Identifies as original to a Canadian Olds 442:

E is eaton posi
RF is 3.31 12 bolt posi. This code is for a Chevelle differential used in the 442 Cutlass. Oshawa Canada car plant used the Chevy 12 bolts for the 442 68-70

Can the Olds gurus confirm?
Is this a desirable rear end?

Thanks,
Tim

I don't know anything about the original application, but I can tell you that Chevy 12 bolt rears are very sought after.

Even in '67, Joe? I thought it was only in '68-9.

The OP didn't say the axle was original to that car. You are correct, Oshawa did not build Cutlii in 1967, only the 68-69 model years. And to the OP, whowever wrote that post that said 68-70 is incorrect. No Oldsmobiles were built in Oshawa for the 1970 model year either. If you can find the VIN derivative on that chassis, it will tell you the assembly plant, but that axle isn't original to a 67 Cutlass, so it's likely not an Olds Oshawa installation but a swap anyway.

I figured it was a swap in the ‘67. But do those codes on the axle prove it was originally installed in an Olds as the Chevelle site indicated?
The ‘67 442 I am restoring has a P Type rear end (SI code non anti spin) that appears to be original to the car (I realize there is no way to prove that), so I am wondering which rear end to keep. Probably doesn’t matter but I am curious.

Yes, RF indicates it was originally installed in an Olds at Oshawa.

Yep RF is a 12 bolt c type 3.31 posi rear 68........ maybe a Very LAte 67 got a early 68 rear?
There were many mistakes on the line with codes and dates. Do not ever think that Humans on a line that is told NOT to stop are going to install correct parts and dates etc.
Old guys told me they would keep that line moving no matter what the dealerships will iron out an issues if needed.
But might be more likely over 50- 60 years someone replaced the rear over time...
