Bolt-in rear end swap?

I've been told that the rear end from a 57-64 Olds-Pont (9.3) is a bolt-in swap into my 53 88. Can anyone confirm this?

I just found a 64 Catalina Safari wagon with the rear end intact for cheap, good only for a few parts. If the rear end is an easy swap, it would be worth checking out closer.

TIA.

Doesn't the 64 Pontiac have coil springs while the 53 Olds has leaf springs?

Are you just talking about swapping out the center section (the pumpkin) or the entire rear end?

Hmm. Yes, apparently so. That would put a damper on the whole "bolt-in" scenario...

Oh, well. It's so rare to see something like that pop up within a hundred miles, in Montana, that I got over-excited.

The whole rear end. It would be fun to have posi at some point, which isn't an option at all with the original rear but is with the 9.3, as well as being monstrously strong.
