b body posi?

are there b body posi rears available? (dumb question or good question...something ive never thought about till now)i wouldnt mind a posi in my 66 dynamic 88. if they are available...are they hard to find and very expensive? whats a good gear ratio in a big car like that (back roads and city streets most of the time with little highway use...no racing but i am a hp lover) thanks

I can't say for sure for your '66 but in my '69 the rear end is called a type "O", it looks like a corporate GM 12 bolt to the untrained eye but it isn't. Our big B bodies usually had taller gears intended for use and mileage on the highway, as an example mine is 2.73:1 so you can see there is room for improvement. I have been pondering the prospect of actively seeking a posi third member for the type "O". I was told they were available. Another option is getting a standard corporate rear end with a posi and having the axle adjusted to fit your car if you are into fabricating things yourself or have access. I suspect finding the former would be cheaper but thats just a guess. Good luck.

65 & 66 B-body's are different than 67 up, 71 changed to a corporate 10 bolt. 65 & 66 aren't quite as big a ring gear than the 67 up. Gears aren't avalible. I have a 3:08 posi center carrier & pinion with the shims in order. It isn't hard to set-up. I would sell it for $300. Or I have a bolt-in complete 3:08 posi housing with brakes & emergency cables from a 67 Buick Wildcat, $500. $25 gas discount if picked up. The 3:08 is a nice all around gear, I haven't ever found the 3:23 yet. It woke up my 67 Olds 98, it had a 2:56. My 98 weighs 4680# was raced at the Miller Meet 2 years ago, 14:18 @ 99 mph, 1:99/ 60'. 330 307 3376 or Kenibil@aol.com
