On my 1968 O-Type it means 3.42:1 ratio, open diff, HD 31 spline axle shafts.

It has always amazed me that folks would purchase a performance vehicle with over 300 horsepower and not pay the small amount for the G80 limited slip diff option.

You got me. This thing is so bare bones almost amazes me to call it a muscle car. No power steering no power brakes manual trans and a big engine dual exhaust yet a 3.42 one linger rear. Beats me?

Now that made me laugh. Mostly because of the stuck in the ditch part, which I can wholeheartedly relate to.

The 3.91 was available as an open diff. as well. My thought on it is that maybe they bought the car because it was a cool car to have, but that they necessarily weren't into street racing it, but did want the performance gears for towing, so posi wasn't a concern for them.
