9" in a g-body
9" in a g-body
I'm looking at some rear end online and not sure which way to go. I have a 83 cutlass supreme. Plans on a badass 455 stage 2 200r4. I know my rear end won't hold up so I was looking at the currie and moser 9" rear ends being a street car I'd figure the 3.50 gears. But i don't know what spline count. The diference between true lock and detroit locker or a spool. I know I don't want a open diff. Please skool me on rear ends. All help is appreatiated. Thanks
Build it once,& have the right parts in there to handle any future plans for more power. As mentioned above, there are some G-body guys running the 8.8" Ford rears out of Mustangs. If you want to buy something all new,I would get the Moser 12-bolt for the G-body.A little less weight than the 9" too. Build it with 33-spline axles,Detroit locker,& put the #7900 housing ends on it,so you can run GM brakes. Those ends will take the 64-up A-body backing plates.Have the axles made for the Timken SET-20 roller bearings,as those are better for a street-driven car than a ballbearing design.
I was looking at the moser units cause they are pretty much bolt on units. Is there a pre made 8.8 and can it handle a hi po 455. Without being too concern about it. Also are the locking diff just a limited slip or the ones that sound like a rachet around corners
