3.42 ring and pinion-vendor

Who sells a 3.42 gear set for my 8.5 12bolt rear in my 70 cutlass at a reasonable price? Been searching and I find plenty for a 10 bolt but have not found anything for a 12 bolt rear end! Any replies are greatly appreciated!

Jim is a good resource for O-Type parts for sure.

Richmond Gear makes/sells ring and pinion sets for the O-Type rear, but they are made to fit the factory 3.08-3.23 carrier.

I also highly recommend Jim (monzaz) for parts. He will answer any of your questions and supply the parts needed at reasonable prices.

If those are factory gears the aftermarket ring gear won't work correctly as they are made for the 3.08-3.23 carrier. Years back someone had made ring gear spacers to use the aftermarket gears on the 2.56 carrier but you would be going the opposite way. You may need to locate a carrier to go along with the new gears.

to re-use your original carrier you will need an OEM 3.42 crown and pinion. The aftermarket 3.42 gear set is designed to work on the 3 08 / 3.23 and new modified 8.8" carriers.

Jim aka Monzaz is a great source for Type O parts. You may also wish to contact Brian Trick.
