1970 rear diff paint

Were the 1970 442 differential housings painted from the factory? I see some painted and others just bare & rusty.

lightly no paint just bare metal and over spray from body.

The body wasn't mounted on the frame when it was painted, so there can't be overspray from the body on the rear axle.
