1955 pinion seal/carrier issues

So I had my rear end rebuilt about a year ago, with all new bearings and seals. Since then I have maybe driven 3,000 miles. Within about the last 1,000 miles I noticed the pinion seal is leaking, and leaking somewhat badly.

I initially had the rear rebuilt because the carrier bearing was shot and made a hell of a noise when coasting. This noise is starting to redevelop already.

Is this something the shop I took it to screwed up? To be fair the hydramatic in that thing under certain circumstances shifts VERY hard and the trans stays in gear while decelerating, and slows the car down. Would this damage the rear end in any way? Any help is appreciated. I will be calling the shop I took it to regardless, I'm just curious how disappointed I should be.

Let us know what the shop says, as there's no other reason than poor installation, unless you've a cracked housing!

rear issues

Well if they did not change the race there could be your problem again...BOTH need to be new...if one is bad the other is too. thery could have just done the outer bearing and not the inner...
The pinion nut could be backing off - HAppens ALOT - New nut should be used with lock tight and we even peen the nut to the thread to prevent this...

SO- many things to check- tell them you want the old parts back when replaced. That helps. Jim
