Type O 12 bolt 1967-1970 on all American built Olds A body.

Canadian built 1964-1967 Olds A body was 8.2" BOP.

Chevy 12 bolt on all Canadian built Olds A body 1968-1969.

Corporate 8.5" on all Olds A body 1971-1972. No 12 bolt period.

I assume a 12 bolt will still fit in a 71-72 A body?

If it came out of a 68-72 A body originally, then yes it will fit a 71-72 A body.

A 65-67 narrow A body 12 bolt is also a bolt in replacement for a 71-72 but wheels will require more backspacing.

Actually, the narrower axle requires wheels with less backspacing (the wheel mounting surface is closer to the inboard lip of the wheel). This is negative offset.

Of course. That's what I get for posting on 3 hours sleep.

Thanks for the correction.

actually

Actually Stock rims will not make any real difference swapping the 64-67 12 bolt..... ONLY if you have super wide rims and tires.
1/2" on each side will not make a difference with factory stock wheels rims etc.

What will be something you need to deal with is the 64 65 66 spring perch being flat. The 1967-1972 has the raise cup perch for the lower spring pig tail.

Then 12 bolt chevy will have different Yokes. 1310 u-bolt, 1310 strap and bolts, 1330 straps and bolts, Mechanics 3R BOP with u-bolts.
