1967 cutlass supreme conv w/4 speed

I'm new to the site.I've been around oldsmobiles all my life.I have owned several from cutlass to 98's.I tend to favor the 66-67's.The question is I just bought a 67 cutlass supreme conv with a 4 speed. The car was bought used in 69(the same owner since). It has bucket seats, console with factory Hurst shifter and a muncie 4 speed. It was saffron yellow with a black interior. It needs restoration but does run and drive.330 with 4 barrel carb.Manual brakes and power steering. It also has a 12 bolt rear.I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a non 442 conv with 4 speed.I assume it's kind of rare.I've been told there is no way to tell how many were built.I know the pics are bad but that's all I have.

You're in luck. I have some '67 production figures that I can extrapolate a approximation for you.
There were approx 5325 M20s and 7765 M21s that made it into Cutlass Supreme models in '67. So this includes 442s and the two 4-dr models as well.
We'll need to combine the two 4-speeds to drill deeper. (13,090)
We know that 11,381 went into 442s in '67.
That leave approx 1709 combined M20 and M21s that went into non-442 Cutlass Supremes, possibly in all 5 Cutlass Supreme models.
That's as far as we can go, but that is an impressively low number regardless.

I had one back in 85. All original, 67 red Cutlass, 330 4 bbl 4 speed M20, convertible, I paid $375.00 for the car. It was alot faster than I thought it should be.

That's for sure. The '66-'67 320 hp 330 is an overlooked performer! Add a little gearing and it was surprising. I had a '66 Cutlass Supreme (only a 4-dr hardtop the first year). Same motor, 3.23 posi. Even with the Jetaway, it was a sleeper of a stoplight warrior!

Stan, specifically 1 of 138 what? I presume you have the Canadian docs. How specific are they with what they tell you?

Thanks for posting that, Stan.
This may sound like nit-picking (GM Canada, not you!), but It is too bad they don't just give you the raw data rather than try to translate or interpret it.
So what does the "138 Cutlass models with M20" really mean?
First of all, one must *presume* that the 138 is a "produced for sale in Canada" number even though it is not explicit.
1. 138 of the 1759? Presumed?
2. Or 138 of *all* Cutlass models? As literally said? Would include 4 other models besides the Cutlass Holiday Coupe.
And why the "less than"?
Not at all very well stated.

It had pretty steep gears. I still remember it having an extra speedometer reducer or whatever that thing was bolted to the Muncie. I remember a guy telling me it meant it had 390 gears. It was a one wheel wonder, I do remember that.

I'd be surprised there was a 3.90-series gear without Posi. At least that's the rule for the later years.

I'm quite aware of what it says in the left column. But there are parenthesis () around the "less than 138...." statement and that can take the enclosed statement out of the context. And it specifically says "Cutlass models", not "Cutlass Holiday Coupe".
That is far from clear what is really meant. One can *presume* anything they want to.

It wasn't until '68 that posi was included in an axle package, and it *wasn't* included with the G88 3.91, it was included only with the G89 4.33. So it was an evolutionary thing.

My '66 442 came with a TG code 3.90 open rear. Earlier in its life, someone understandably converted it to posi, though.
In '66, the 3.90 gear was the standard ratio with the M21 trans. But you still needed to check off the G80 box to get posi!

congrads, 1oldrat..........I looked at that car but could not talk my body man into taking the job. Definitely not something that too many people have.

I'm still looking for a std shift '67 cutlass ragtop, but they are pretty elusive unless you want a 442
