1966 Cutlass Cowl Tag Help
Hi guys I am looking at a 1966 Cutlass with a 330 and a 4 speed. I know it's not a 442 because it has an original 330 in it, but I can't remember when the last time I saw a 66 Cutlass with a 4 speed FROM THE FACTORY that wasn't a 442. It has the correct console with the vacuum gage.
Here’s the info from the Cowl Tag:
02D
ST 66-33817 LAN17603 BODY
TR 980 B N-N PAINT
E 2LG
I know its a F-85 Cutlass Holiday Coupe that was built the 4th week of Feb in Lansing, Michingan. I think the 980 B is the code for black bucket interior and N-N is a burgandy upper and lower.
Anyone know what the “E” and the “2LG” stand for?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve
I'm not an expert with the 1966 but I've found a couple sites that may help. Go to the following link for the 1965 trim tags,
http://442restoration.homestead.com/AccCiphers.html
That shows the L to mean the hole and plate for the four speed shifter, and the G to mean the console brackets. Also, the E stood for tinted windshield and windows. It may be the same for 1966.
Then a site that talks about the 1967 is:
http://www.oldsmobility.com/
Hope this helps! John

John,
Thanks for the info. So it looks like my Cutlass is an original 4sp console car. I can't find any production numbers that show how many 4 speed and automatics were made. Any idea on that?
Thanks,
Steve

Sorry I don't Steve. But it sounds like you found a cool car! I've got a 1964 Cutlass factory 4 speed project car. So I know they made them on other than the 442 models. A couple years ago I saw a 1967 Vista Cruiser with a factory 4 speed, would have loved to bought it! Whatever the production numbers if the price is right it would be a fun car! John
