Cowl Tag Decode-70 Cutlass Supreme Convertible

Hello all. I am looking for some help in decoding this tag on a car I have. Looking at the tag, it appears as though the car was repainted at some point.... I am running into some trouble with the paint and trim portion. This would be one of the Z stamped trims, and have not been able to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, that tag has been tampered with. Where the paint and top codes should be, appear to have body filler added, probably after the original codes were flattened. Same with the trim code area. The bottom of the tag appears to have been pried up at one time, probably after the original rivets were removed, and It didn't come off easy, hence the crease on the right side of the tag. I hate to suggest that you carefully scrape those area's to see if they are in fact covered in a thin coat of bondo. Maybe others can chip in with their opinion.

It looks like a Lansing built 70 Supreme convertible, scheduled build was last week in April, 1970. Paint code of 63 is Copper Irridescent.

979 was saddle brown buckets, and H is for a gold convertible top, correct? Not sure about that "Z" code. I seem to recall a thread on Z cars and it was assumed these were non-recommended color combos? Or was there some other conclusion on that?

Thank you all for the information. I did clean up the area slightly around the cowl tag, and to me it looks like they were trying to remove it for painting, and failed. No bondo that I saw. I don't believe there is anything nefarious, more incompetency and idiocy related...

I did not even realize that the paint and top codes were on the tag, far left of where I have normally seen them. Trim there as well, time to dust off my bi focals. The Z mystery never had a definite answer as to what it stood for.

I still think Z was a hot order.
