64 Cutlass Instrument panel printed circuit board Plug
Hi Olds People,
I swapped out the printed circuit board that goes behind the instrument panel on my '64 Cutlass and now I can't get the plug back in.
I was able to remove the circuit board from under the dash. The plug elements are old and stiff. I tried to loosen them up but when I tried to plug it in the
prongs in the plug would not line up with the male ends they plug into on the circuit board Then the wires started falling out of the plug. It looks like I will have to cut the plug out so I can try to attach it on a bench then extend all 12 wires and join them back up with the wires that are there.
Has anyone had this problem? Any insights. I did try grease, but basically now the plug is falling apart. Maybe I could buy some plug / wire setup somewhere. Maybe someone has one??

This may be obvious... just want to make sure youre sliding it on the correct way...
Did you try to connect it sideways to what you're trying?
I believe it mounts as if the connector is parallel to the board...not perpendicular.
Does that make sense?

While I was trying to get it on while the circuit board was in place, there was barely enough slack to get it up there. The pins in the plug were very stiff, I tried pushing it on from the top and straight on. Long story short, I ended up cutting the plug off. After working on all the pins for a while I was able to get the plug on. Even then it was pretty hard to do. I am now in the process of extending the wires so I can put the board in the car already plugged in and then re connect the wires. What a hassle. I thought about trying to eliminate the plug and use some sort of female bullet connectors, but that did not pan out so well either. I ordered the wire which should come today.
