1970 Cutlass AC Help. Low side 30psi High side 25psi

Any help? The high side is only 25 psi, this is with the car running and the Compressor engaged. When I turn off the car the high side jumps to 60 psi and the low side jumps to almost 70 psi.

The gauge readings shown are typical for an under-charged system. What happens if you add a 1/2 lb. of freon? The low side should go lower and the high side higher. I suggest you google R134 freon temperature/pressure correlation chart and add freon in small (1/4 lb.) amounts until the high side gauge reads in the pressure range for the prevailing ambient temperature as shown on the chart. Because the system is low on freon which may indicate a leak I suggest using a A/C system die kit and follow up with a black light 3-5 days later.

I will refrain from commenting other than this:
That is typical as when the compressor is turned off the high and low side pressures will equalize at the same pressure.

If you add 1/2 lbs a time and notice no pressure differential. Your compressor is probably fooked.
usually a system that is low on freon/refrigerant the low side pressures will drop below normal values and you will notice that the system will cool ok for a while and then nothing. This is because the low charge will allow the evaporator to freeze and unfreeze which will effect air flow through evaporator.

working

Added another can, and though the high side still did not jump much, the extra can finally seems to do the job, Cold Air finally coming out.
