Mounting floor shifter in '72 column to floor conversion

Winter project underway! Changing from bench/column shift to buckets with console. I have the bench and carpet out, and yesterday started on mounting the shifter and console brackets. I'm using the assembly manual and clearly see all the shifter dimples they reference for mounting it. The problem I'm having is that if I mount the shifter exactly where the dimples are, when I set the console on and align the console to shifter holes, the console is just slightly (half inch) to the right of the centerline on the hump. it would probably work just fine, but to the naked eye it is off a bit. If I center it perfectly then my dimples don't line up for the shifter. Common sense tells me to put it where i want it and run the screws in! Just thought I'd ask the great minds here on the forum in case I'm missing something or ???

Thanks
