Hi, Do any numbers tell me on what date my 80 olds cutlass was built ? Also what kind and where the tranny was built ?

 

Usually there is a paper line sheet that is tucked in or under or behind the seats somewhere...it's about two inches wide and eight inches long with all your options and car number but I am not sure if it has the date of build??? on the cowl there is a metal tag with your paint and trim and build date on it...

On an American-built car, there should be a metal body data plate on the driver side upper cowl area. This plate has the info you want. The top line should start with 80, then the next three numbers are the time builtcode which is a Julian date from start of production. Ex 100 is 100 days from production start date. The plate also contains paint, roof treatment, seat type and most option codes.

A Canadian-built car should have the plate in the same location, but it is different. On the top line, there will be two numbers and a letter for time built. Ex 10A would be first week (A) of October (10).

If that plate is missing, someone has been monkeying with that car.

The 2-letter trans code is stamped on the governor cover for an M33 Turbo 350. M38 350s and 350Cs have it stamped in the right side of the trans oil pan. 250Cs have it on the bellhousing, but it was used only behind 305 engines in Cutlasses. A 200 or 200C trans code will be stamped on a metal plate on the right side of transmission case, similar to a Turbo 400, i.e. 80-OT-1011, but IMHO should never have been used at all behind anything bigger than the V6.
