Steering wheel advice?

I am still driving with the original to the car medium blue steering wheel. The wheel is cracked and pretty faded. The restoration guys are quoting me anywhere from $700 to $1000 for a u/v resistant total to the frame of the wheel restoration. Considering the car, on a good day, might be worth $12k, woukd you invest in the wheel restoration or just replace it with one of the walnut wheels from maybe Grant? I love the look of the original wheel but I almost feel foolish spending $1000 on one. Thoughts or advice?

Unfortunately, remolding a wheel takes a ton of labor, which is what you're paying for. You can try the steering wheel epoxy patch kits like the ones Eastwood sells, but then you have to paint the wheel. I don't know how the paint holds up under use.

Funny you should mention the Grant wheel. I went with a vintage Superior 500 wood wheel for my 62. I think it looks better than the stock wheel.

Joe-i have seen the results of the Eastwood kit. The paint job didnt look as good as I would want after the owner had had it done about a year ago.

TK-thanks for the link. I will check it out.
