Shocks

I recently installed station wagon springs on my 1969 Cutlass convertible, now my air shocks don't have enough stroke. Does anyone know if there's a rear shock with a 21" or more extended length that will bolt on?

You can also drill a hole closer to the top of the mounting plate to give you a higher mounting position if you only need a few inches. (no pun intended...)

Go to your parts store and pray they have a real parts manual "as in paper book". In the back of the parts manuals they list all the lengths and type of ends that are on the shocks. You might also be able to find this on line with a little searching.

Has anyone ever used shock extenders??? Do you think they will work for this situation? I found 3" extenders on ebay.

You also have to take into consideration that they will settle a bit over time. You can call any shock manufacturers tech line and they can recommend a part number to you.

I used them years ago. In your case, I don't see why they wouldn't work. O'reilly's has them for $11.99

I may be off but was hoping adding wagon springs would lift my car (to level) where I could get rid off the air-shocks and run conventional gas shocks? I yanked the air-shocks out on an El Camino years back and matched up slightly taller/stiffer moog springs with S-10 Blazer rear shocks. The combo worked well.

Why will you need to run air-shocks with the new springs?

I really don't need the air shocks. I'm going to change them to gas shocks, the ride will be way better!

That was the # for the springs, they REALLY lifted the car though, maybe a little too high. I put the air shocks back on and I had to buy extensions because they were bottoming out. In the near future I am going to put gas shocks on, I think I'll be able to get the standard shock because of the three inch spacer that I had to install.

Station wagon springs lifted mine a good 2.5 inches over stock. I had 2 mounting holes for the bottom shock mount I just used the upper 1 which was about 2 inches higher.

Maybe if the rear is too high you could put the air shocks on up side down and air them up to lower the car?
