Sealer of choice?

Planning to replace water pump and thermostat.
In the “old” days I always used Permatex #2.

What is the preferred sealer in todays world?

I use Permatex Hi Tack gasket sealant on the pump side or thermostat housing side. The gasket is what seals the parts.

When in doubt, I use a film of Ultra Black RTV on a gasket, both sides.

X2, but I normally don't need it unless the front cover is rust pitted.
