Radiator Woes

Got a new radiator- it has an extra outlet right below fill cap. Looks like maybe for reserve tank-= which my car does not have- is there a way to cap this off or did I get the wrong Rad. Rock auto listed it as the direct replacement for my car. ugg.

A lot of radiator companies are now making "universal" direct fit rads. They fit a wide range of vehicles that have rads with the same dimensions. They come with oil coolers, trans cooler and other things like the tube. If your vehicle does not have the equipment leave the fittings capped.
The tube you refer to is for the heater hose. Some newer vehicle had the heater hose dump into the rad rather than the engine. You can use a large bypass cap and hoseclamp to plug it.

Got it- makes sense. Will look for bypass cap to plug that thing.

Cheers

What year car? They made that production change mid-year 1973 in response to heater noise complaints, and actually released a retrofit kit for 71-mid 73 cars that routed the heater return to the lower radiator hose.

Were I you, I'd cap the fitting on the water pump as suggested and run the heater return hose to the nipple on the radiator.
