R4 compressor on earlier motors

R4 compressor on earlier motors
I hope this is along the lines of the original discussion and not a highjack, but I've been considering one of these systems for my engine. I haven't figured out how to use the original A6 compressor brackets with roller rockers and tall valve covers. Figured I'd have to use a sanden or R4 radial compressor. I don't WANT to spend so much for something that doesn't add performance, plus my wife likes jewelry. More discussion on plusses/minuses and options may benefit anyone considering a March kit. Thanks and my pardon to OP if this is too far off topic.

And now you can stop apologizing.
If you are looking for an inexpensive solution to valve cover clearance problems, consider swapping to a 307 accessory bracket set. These brackets should move the R4 compressor and alternator to the point that you can use taller valve covers. If you have an SBO, it's a bolt-on. If you have a BBO, you need to weld a couple of tabs to the bottom of the front A/C compressor bracket to make up for the taller deck height.

Thanks Joe! My own thread topic! This is for my 455. I'll look into finding the 307 accessory brackets. To TripDeuces- good tip; that is my plan. Felpro used to make a thicker valve cover gasket set but I believe it was discontinued several years ago. I'm also wondering about clearance with the A/C evap box. Does anyone know how The vintage air kit for a 72 cutlass mounts their compressor?
