Power steering pump and gear.

My first question is about the gear,Can I pull the pittman shaft out of the gear without disassembling the entire gear? It is leaking out of the seals. I realize that I should reseal the whole thing but money is a little tight and so is time. Second question is how difficult is it to reseal the power steering pump? It is a saginaw pump. 1970 Cutlass.

If the steering gear is leaking from the bottom seal, that one is super easy to replace. No need to do anything other than remove the pittman arm to remove and replace the lower seal.

The pump can be resealed fairly easily as well, but I don’t recall the details as the last rime I did one was in the 1980s.

Buy the pump repair kit. It will have all of the O-rings and seals needed to seal the pump and the reservoir. Or if it is just the can leaking around the outside, buy the correct size O-ring and replace it.
