Olds wagon rear end in a Cutlass?
Anyone know if the 1968 Olds wagon came with posi, and if they were heavier duty than the rear end installed in the 1969 Cutlass? My existing rear end in my 1969 is a peg leg with the 2.73? (dont remember the exact ratio anymore) but it was in the high 2's . Is it a direct bolt in? Thanks

I can tell you I have a 1969 vista cruiser posi rear in my car. No problems bolting it in with only one exception, the retainer for the u joints and yoke was a different style. This rear does have wider brake shoes and might have a slightly larger diameter axle, but still 28 splines.
Hopefully someone can tell you exactly what you need to know.

The Vista rear ends bolt into other A-body cars. The differences are the brake drums, backing plates (both designed for 9.5 x 2.5 shoes) and different wheel bearings. The flattop wagon axles are the same as car axles.

Joe, I thought there was some difference in the shock or spring mounts between wagons and the other a bodies... I know the springs are different. I hope they are the same, because then I can use the rear end out of my 72 Supreme parts car in my 70 Vista, if I use the axles, backing plates, etc from the Vista???
