1972 Convertible Quarter Window Moldings
1972 Convertible Quarter Window Moldings
I need to replace my right side quarter window molding. The chrome / stainless part is rusted on the inside and no longer fits properly.
I see both Year One and OPG list the part. Any experience with either of the parts, as far as the quality? I am tired of getting lousy repro parts and would like to hear if anyone knows one or the other is an accurate reproduction. I will probably replace both sides as well as the rubber (with the metal insert).

Might be made by the same factory, no matter who you buy from.
I have a pair here recently purchased from Inline Tube by a customer. Chrome looks nice, etc. Includes a rubber channel "gasket" but I'll use glass tape like the originals used. Never had any luck installing these w/the rubber gasket supplied by the manufacturer.
Installed a pair from The Parts Place a few years ago...those also came with a rubber gasket but the gasket looked a bit different from the gaskets that came w/these from ILT. Didn't use the rubber gasket on those a few years back as there was no way to get the chrome piece on using the supplied gasket.
When I say "rubber gasket" I am referring to a U-shaped thin rubber strip that is intended to hold the chrome onto the glass. The rubber w/strips you mention are not what I'm referencing.
Definitely get the rubber strips w/the integral metal strip.
I'll try to install these soon and see how they go on.
On any of these repro chrome parts you should keep an eye on the chrome for deterioration. Don't know what the durability of the chrome is on these things but a bit of chrome polish will take care of any of the usual "specks" that occasionally seem to form on chrome.

Aren't the originals steel with stainless on the outer facing piece? Mine is rusted and swollen from the inside. I used a black window setting caulk before to attach the piece to the window.
