Oil Preference

I just purchased Lucas 10913 10W40 Semi-Synthetic Racing Oil ZDDP Zinc Enhanced. Was this a mistake, or will it be good to use in my ‘71 Cutlass Supreme?

Probably overkill if not a new or at least moderately high performance build. More details will net more responses - i.e. SB or BB, engine condition, etc...

But definitely won't hurt it..

I would not worry about it.

That seems like a good oil for your car. What were you worried about?

The oil sounds good. The thing with using synthetic oil is that it has less surface tension. Which means that it could have a tendency to find leaks in an old school motor. Another choice would be Lucas hot rod oil, it too has high ZZDP. Mostly just personal choice.

Using a racing oil for a street car. I guess it can’t hurt. Thank you!

It’s semi-synthetic. I guess it’s all good. Thank you!

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how that (the semi-synthetic thing) works. I would tend to go one way or the other -- I use Lucas Hot Rod oil (high ZDDP dinosaur juice) in my car. I change it so frequently that the advantages of synthetic are lost on me.
