Newbie needs help decoding

Hi and welcome to the site.
I'll get your post moved to it's own thread so it's easier to access. Jumping into someone elses thread is called 'hijacking', something that should be avoided in situations like this.
This isn't the VIN you're showing us, it's the cars Cowl Tag that was installed by Fisher Body Works when they built the shell and interior of the car. It won't have all the cars information, but decodes as follows:
ST-71: 1971 Model year
3: Oldsmobile Division of GM
42: Model - Cutlass Supreme
57: Body style - 2dr hardtop coupe
R: Arlington production
BDY13879: Body number assigned by Fisher Body Works Arlington. Not related to VIN
TRM 939: Sienna vinyl interior.
PNT 67 E - Sienna lower body, Sandalwood vinyl roof
06A: Time build week at Arlington FBW - first week (A) of June (06), 1971. This is close to the end of production for the 71 model
240: internal code at FBW related to part of the build sheet.
Does this match your car?
Your VIN should start out 34257R1XXXXXX where the X's are the sequence it was scheduled at the Arlington final assembly.

I was able to decode it on my end. The E top code was missing but everything else worked for me. If you are having trouble feel free to email me at datatagdecoder@gmail.com.

Chris, there was a bit of discussion about the term 'assembly' a while back and honestly I'm not sure it really matters a lot to most of us. The general consensus was that Assembly was more of the 'final assembly line production' whereas what you're calling assembly was the Fisher Body build. All the Olds plants had Fisher plants closeby where the bodies and interiors were cobbled together (usually took around 3-4 days) and then the body was sent to the Assembly line and slotted into production. That's why the Assembly line installed the VIN plate, and Fisher attached the Cowl tag. Final assembly was basically marrying the body production to a matched full rolling chassis, adding front clip, bumpers and trim.
EDIT: That's also why the cowl tag has a time code week for the build instead of a specific day.

Chris, it was a reference to the cowl tag. Where it says 'Assembly Date' and 'Assembly Plant'. The Fisher plants were more of a 'body build', not assembly. I know - a fine point which I also argued. The 'Assembly' is final production after the body was shipped to the assembly line, and more related to VIN as I've been schooled. FBW was the Body Build Plant. Does that make sense to you or is it even something to worry about?
