New user with a 69

hi new to forums, working on my second cutlass first was a 86 supreme which is R.I.P.

just starting restoration of a 1969 442 holiday coupe

mechanically its sound, when i bought it someone already swapped the 400 out for a 455 from a Toronado, original th400 and the rear was missing replaced with a regular 10 bolt open rear.

cosmetically its missing most of the interior, needs rear quarters inner/outer wheelhouse 2 doors 1 rocker 1/2 the floor (including part of the firewall extension) and 3/4 of the trunk pan the rest is solid (so far)

but i havent stripped the paint away from around the windows

Talking Welcome to CO

Looks like a good project, and another 69 to boot, They make up a large portion of the members much to Jamsbo's delight. Good luck with your build

plans . . .

in the grand scheme of things the drive train upgrades . . .

gonna work over the 455 replace current headers/mufflers (problly cherry bomb or thrush instead of magnaflow)

*(might add the W25 OAI instead of putting in the bumper scoops)
**(side note its not a factory W30 car but im not a purist)

add a built T56 6 speed 4.11 gears and probably an Eaton posi stuffed inside a strange engineering S60 axle mounted to currie currectrac a-body upper and lower arms

up front C6 spindles with 4 piston calipers

replace stock vacuum PB with a hydra-boost system due to the low vacuum from cam replacement

fix the body and interieor as close to orignal as possible

custom paint scheme in side and out in place of the original White paint / red interior

body is gonna get painted a dark blue metalic with a medium blue candy/pearlescent
or
possible dark blue to medium blue chamelon/candy

*[edit] gonna sit on cragar 313 smoothies 15x7 front 15x10 rear wrapped in 215-75-15 and 275-60-15 respectively (maybe slightly different sizes) cooper cobra gt's

interior will be black and blue combo grant steering wheel and custom gauges probly inlaid in dash where radio/ac controls should be

custom sound system in trunk on the deck behind rear bench and speakers on the kick panels next to the fresh air vents

of course this is after i do all the body work

so you could call it a resto-mod with a custom hot rod look

yet my boss makes fun of me with his 67 chevelle for not having a popular car i guess we'll see when both our respective restos are finished

oh the 86 is RIP cause i was on a back road early in the morning in fall . . .

now its like a mountain so a drop off on the oncoming lane and a rocky(boulders) uphill in my lane

blind turn several deer are jumping from my lane to the oncoming lane as a Miata is coming round the turn (in my lane) and I'm entering the turn

the choices flashed through my mind possibly kill the driver of the miata or take my chances with the boulder at about 30 mph guess who won that david vs Goliath moment

needless to say i hit the brakes and swerved into a boulder

took out the rim spindle both a arms tie rod and center link shock mount fender ac heater box and shoved it all into the passenger side of the block

i walked away with a few bruises.
if i had to do it again id make the same choice every time after all its only a car

Wow. Glad to hear you could walk away. Cars are mechanical things that can be replaced. But people can't be.
