New here and looking for some thoughts

I am in the middle of restoring my 1964 Impala so I am unable to drive it. So I was looking at getting this to drive around in until my Impala is done. I was looking to get some thoughts on the car. The car was repainted and a new vinyl top about 10 years ago. The odometer reads 34k, so I am guessing it is 134k. The engine was rebuilt in 1997 and the transmission was rebuilt last spring. The guy told me it was the original engine and transmission but I haven't looked into it. The guy also said the floors, trunk, and frame are all solid. He said the car is 95% rust free, there is some surface rust on the quarters, typical in WI. I haven't personally seen the car yet as it is 1.5 hours from where I live.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Looks good from the pictures.

Only one problem: If you buy this, you'll end up selling that overrated postal van you're working on.

Welcome to ClassicOlds.

Doesn't look too bad but pictures only give a little glimpse of what the car really is. Of concern is the trunk floor which looks wet in the picture. It is common for the window channels to rot thru and allow water to enter trunk. When the front leaks the floors rot. I would look good at those areas and the whole underside and frame. As for a car to jump in and go they are usually hard to find, they all need something. An 1.5 hour drive is nothing, have a look.

Nice car and the price is reasonable. Welcome to Classic Olds.

Outside of the hideous (unique) color combo. $7500 is a good starting point to negotiate the price down. I'd change the vinyl top.

Careful, once you are in an Olds, you may never go back.

Well, went and looked at the car yesterday. Going to have to pass on it. Who ever painted the car didn't use enough base coat because the primer is bleeding through the paint, so there are yellow circles on the car. The trunk does leak water but I couldn't tell from where, the water traps all looked fine and where not rusted. Both the front and rear seats need to be replaced. The door panels need replacing. It also leaks coolant. If I wasn't already restoring one car I would get this as it could easily be brought back to glory. But I am not really looking for another project so I am going to save my money and keep searching for my olds. Hopefully once my impala is done I will find a good deal on a 66 442 that is in half way decent shape to restore. That's what I am looking for next. Thanks for you input.

It's too bad it didn't work out for you... Good luck in your new quest for a 66 442...

'66 442? - Those are certainly easy to find. Doh! Should you go fishin', prepare to see some hammered out junk or top dollar,"collector car" priced babies. Seems all over the map where a decent driver to start with is tough to find at a reasonable price.

Very strange market out there. Well, at least in my area. Check this link, I think it's better researched and more real world than most car value sites.

Everyone at Body shops now put on a little base coat and then allot of clear. If you have the wrong color and lots of body work its going to show through eventually. Found that out the hard way. I will never use anything but single stage now.
